Things I want to do now that my daughter has left for college…
Read the Harry Potter Series - for the first time
Start figure skating - again
Walk our dog, Kirby, every day
Work from home two hours a day, whenever possible
Yoga, pilates and weight-lifting
Buy a Blackberry
Make supper each night
Redecorate college daughter’s room into more of a guest bedroom, but still a place for her whenever she comes home
Attempt daily devotions
Read Christian Liturgy
Keep a daily journal (written)
Compile memorabilia for each child into a scrapbook
Buy a sewing machine (to replace my grandmother’s one from 1960- used)
Find a nice place to watch live music
Start a girls’ night out with my sisters and sisters-in-law
Clean out closets and get rid of clothes from 1990’s (a very ugly time in fashion)
Enjoy a glass of wine at day’s end whenever prudent
Make a hockey scrapbook for my dad
Get closer, somehow, to my mother and try to understand her - I’m 47 and I still really have no idea
Keep a record of these days of separation from my daughter

The 1990’s may have been an ugly time in fashion, but even they do not compare to the hideousness of the 1980’s.
I’m not sure who had bigger shoulder pads, a typical 1980’s business woman or the offensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wow, that’s a heck of a list. Ther4e are several I should join you on. Like maybe walking the dogs daily….
That one about your mom….if you figure it out, LMK. We’ve recently become seriously estranged and I don’t know if I can go back…
Ryan, I have those, too. The ones that have survived have become “keepers”, of sorts. I should find a photo of me with extremely large shoulders..I’ve got one in mind if I can find it.
Lynn, I ended up spending a couple of hours yesterday with her, which I figured was sort of an answer to prayer. Did I mention I also work with her several hours a week at our family business? Yeah, all that and I still don’t understand how she thinks. Not bad, just different from me.
TK!
Laudable goals, to be sure. However, now that you have the time, “think outside the box.” If I may be of some assistance, please:
“Read the Harry Potter Series - for the first time”. Watch the movies instead.
“Start figure skating - again”. Why not invent a new Olympic sport combining ice skating with that balance ball hoppity hop thing?
“Walk our dog, Kirby, every day.” Why not take him hunting every day? He’d love that.
“Keep a daily journal (written)”. Do it online and call it a “blog.”
“Find a nice place to watch live music.” Go to the Youtube website. Lots of concerts on there.
The one thing you must do, however, is to start a podcast for Katie’s Beer. Remember?
Scottius Maximus! You definitely have a gift for giving people soul-lifting laughter! Thank you!
“Read the Harry Potter Series - for the first time”. Watch the movies instead. - But will I miss important story lines if I do that? For example, while very good, the LOTR movies probably miss half of the story lines in the books.
“Start figure skating - again”. Why not invent a new Olympic sport combining ice skating with that balance ball hoppity hop thing? - sounds a bit dangerous! I already worry at work that I will roll over and hit my head one of these days. I’ll be discovered by co-workers upside down and unconscious (on a dress/skirt day, of course).
“Walk our dog, Kirby, every day.” Why not take him hunting every day? He’d love that. I could be the rogue huntress of Minnetonka. That’s illegal, I believe.
“Keep a daily journal (written)”. Do it online and call it a “blog.” - point well taken, there.
“Find a nice place to watch live music.” Go to the Youtube website. Lots of concerts on there. - Thanks to you, I’ve done that plenty!
The one thing you must do, however, is to start a podcast for Katie’s Beer. Remember? Awww, who would want to hear my voice? I think I’ll just work on
bloggingjournalingblogging more often as a start.
