Pond On! The 2nd Annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships is on and needs you!
Brothers and sisters of the pond,We are thrilled to announce: POND ON! Now that temperatures in the Twin Cities are plummeting to winter levels, the second annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships is officially on! The tournament will take place on the frozen waters of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, just a few lakes away from the original Lake Calhoun location. Yes, Mother Nature and I plan to go to couples counseling after her second straight year of unseasonably warm weather, but so be it. The woman came through for me once again.
We Need You
Our intern, the Yeti, tells me we need volunteers up the ying yang. Can you help put up the rink boards this weekend? We have a phenomenal core group of volunteers that will lead the charge, but we need many more bodies to help get the job done this Saturday (and possibly Sunday) starting at 9 a.m. at the event site located on the northwest side of Lake Nokomis.
We also need volunteers for the tournament, and referees are in high demand. There is no experience required; we provide training. Refs won’t be on skates and they mainly need to serve as an authoritative figure to call the goals and blocking of the net. The beautiful thing about pond hockey is that play rarely stops and there is very little whistle blowing. All event volunteers will receive a free official USPHC volunteer hat and t-shirt.
If you can help, contact Pat at 952.893.1111 or pat@ridgewayevents.com or sign up at http://www.uspondhockey.com/page/Volunteer.jsp.
