December Blog Challenge: Day One

I have issued myself a challenge: to post something everyday during the month of December. Why? Because I think it is important for me and for the blogosphere in general. Why December? Because it’s the busy month in most people’s minds and should prove a good challenge. On a personal note, prayers and hard work have managed to stave off surgery until February or March, so I want to move past think of myself as being sick and bring myself back up to my usual upbeat self. Keeping a blog is a discipline, like any endeavor, and I’ve found that it is an easy discipline to let go.

  • Hockey news: I saw the worst youth hockey injury ever last weekend during our club’s annual Thanksgiving hockey tournament. Get this: right after a face-off, the center gets checked sandwich-style and ends up with a broken arm on one side of his body and a snapped knee on the other. He was immobilized on the ice while everyone waiting 30 minutes for the ambulance to arrive. Sad thing is a fire station is within walking distance from the rink, but their ambulance crew was out on another call. Incidents like this are so rare in youth hockey, but when it happens it sure reminds me of what is important in life - like being able to walk without pain for the rest of one’s life. Still, I consider other sports like football and soccer, in my own family’s experience, to be much more dangerous than hockey.
  • Danceline news: The West Danceline is going to be the best ever this year: smaller, better, faster!
