We have regained control…

Day four on the attack on our ship’s computer system. We received communication from StarFleet Command that our computer station has been bugged and is sending out thousands of communications for the enemy each hour. StarFleet has also informed us that we must temporarily shut down that bugged station or they will be forced to delete us from their system. As good citizens of the universe, we understood and have complied. The starship NetWatchman is analyzing our computer transmission transcripts. We hope to receive a message from them soon on how to locate and remove the ememy’s device. Until that time, communication from us will be difficult. We may use other ship’s computer. We may also buy a new ship and blow up this one - depends on the mood of the female commanding officer in charge of this enemy attack.

Update:

I have received a transmission from Captain Baldwin of the ship NetWatchman. It’s cryptic and I need to use my personal communicator to contact him back later today:

Theresa,

Can you plz give me a call when you have some time to work on this (I can call you right back if it’s long-distance for you)…if you get my VM leave me a msg with a # and time I can reach you when you’ll be in front of your system. In the mean time *don’t* run any anti-virus.

So, place your bets… Will we be: 1. Blowing up the ship to save the federation? 2. Locating and removing the enemy’s device? 3. Going to Best Buy and buying a new ship’s computer?

Update II: Captain Lawrence Baldwin and his ship, NetWatchman , truly wears a mask of God. He’s a great example of one with a helping vocation, as are all who willing share their talents with others. He was kind, patient and very thorough. I can’t imagine the true cost of having someone like him spend 80 minutes on our system. I probably shouldn’t flatter myself too much; Road Runner, I mean Star Fleet, was quite anxious to clean our system. Mr. Baldwin found the usual 1000 spyware programs running on the home computer of formerly-careless and easily-fooled teenagers. He also found a very invasive and very hidden trojan. I was both pleased and embarrassed that we had the honor of hosting a trojan that was of interest to a talented forensic scientist. He is spending another visit with us, ala NetMeeting, later this afternoon to see if we’ve killed the darn thing for good. Then, I will write our ship’s report and post this weekend.

This is so funny. Glad to see you’ve kept your sense of humor given the seriousness of the situation. (You’re not really with Starfleet are you? You are joking with this Starship stuff aren’t you? Right?)

I’m not a bettor, but I do have a suggestion- why not make this an especially memorable event and do all 3 of the options?

Of course it’s not my money, but it’s always fun to go out a pick up a new computer. There’s something about starting fresh and having so much memory to fill up…..
A flat screen would be fun too. Tim got one for his birhtday. Or maybe you already have one?

PS I’m ready to throw my printer out the window. I just put in new expensive ink (it’s a brother MFC-3829CN) so I hate to get rid of it–plus I bought another ink color to put in. Technology–gotta have it (do we?) but it can be a PAIN!
