Will Summer ever come?

We had a beautiful weekend, except for the times it poured. It poured on and off all weekend long! Still the grass is so green and the temps are mild, so I shouldn’t complain.

My friend, Swansmith, led me to this webblog site. I have long admired and read other people’s blogs, but never thought about writing one myself. I hope to enjoy and use it often. I also hope to link to other sites I enjoy reading. As I write my first entry, my son and husband are cheering on the Timberwolves (game six against the Lakers) and my daughter is at Swansmith’s house. Swansmith’s daughter and my daughter are best friends. They attend the same school; in fact they met only two years ago when they were both brave enough to enroll in a class of 15 boys at a small lutheran grade school (two other braves girls joined them later on). They’ve shared lots of fun experiences together and are now preparing to enter lutheran high school together. It is exciting to think of what the future holds for those two girls.

I am looking forward to this summer. I enjoy having my children home and around adults more often than at school. They usually are much less busy and get lots of rest. By fall, they are very calm, relaxed and a joy to be around. My daughter, Kris, will spend her summer thinking about and preparing for high school and my son, Erik, will be preparing for junior high. Kris has lots of new activities going on this summer: her first job working at a concession stand of the baseball park our son plays at, getting her learner’s permit to drive, preparing for high school and traveling by plane without her family (she’ll be with her church youth group). She made a list of goals for 9th grade yesterday and plans to prepare for those goals this summer. I’ll let her choose whether to share those goals on this blog.

We had a nice visit this weekend with Rob’s dad and two cousins, Brittney and Brianna. The two cousins and Kris are all nearly the same age and have lots of fun together. They all came up to attend Kris’ eighth grade graduation ceremony at church yesterday. The service was very inspiring and the following reception was very touching. Kris had a very special group of classmates and I think they will all miss each other very much. Many of us parents watched as the classmates held each other and cried. Even some of the boys tried to act tough as they imitated the girls crying and hugging, but I suspect it was mostly a cover for their own deep feelings. it was a very, very special day and a very special ending to their grade school experience. Many of them will be together next fall at the lutheran high school. I hope they all manage to keep in touch with each other somehow. May God be with each one of them as they begin the next phase in their lives.

  1. I love this Kiihnworld! And I’ll look forward to hearing about and perhaps even sharing in some adventures of you and your family. We are enjoying Kiihn daughter at our home right now–she livens things up around here! I’m already wondering how she and Christina will expend their energy now as the summer stretches before us–perhaps starting on this rainy day with a movie…….

I look forward to the next entry!
